The Old Ship Aground is a Free House located on Minehead Harbour. Back in 2013, after looking hard for 2 years, we came across The Old Ship Aground – a boarded up and run down building, that needed new life breathed into her. She was originally built in 1911 as The Pier Hotel, a rather grand Edwardian hotel.
Right from the start we wanted to provide good old fashioned hospitality with a quality dishes created from great honest local ingredients. Put simply a pub that we would want to go to.
The bar area is welcoming with great atmosphere, a real fire to keep you warm in colder weather, board games available and a friendly crew of bar staff. We have a handpicked wine list (yes we really did select each wine ourselves) and we also offer a great range of drinks behind the bar with Marston’s assisting us by providing a good choice of Real Ales, lagers and bottled products.
We have a very popular alfresco area right on the Harbour side where you can relax with a drink / food and enjoy the sea views. Children & well behaved dogs are always welcome. We are very proud to announce that The Old Ship Aground was in the Good Pub Guide in the first year of opening. Coffee / Teas/ Hot Chocolate served all day and Lunch is available 12 to 2.30pm and Dinner 6pm till 9pm. We serve food in the relaxed Bar area, in our separate newly refurbished Restaurant area or Alfresco.
Here at The Old Ship Aground food is very much a part of what we do and is very much ‘River Cottage’ in style – if we cannot raise it or grow it, you can be sure its locally sourced, from home raised Mutton to oven fired hams you can be assured it’s the very best of quality. With our small farm on the hills of Exmoor we have a real connection with traditional farming and understand the true importance of good produce to make good food.
With this in mind we have created menus which are both varied and interesting, all of which are downloadable under the Great Food section on this website. We also run with daily Specials – a wide range of interesting dishes & tastes to match, such as our own cured Pork Crackling with a Sweet Chilli Dip or Beans on Toast the Old Ship Aground way, with our own Baked Soda Bread, toasted and topped with Beans & Cheddar melt with a spicy Lea & Perrins sauce. Fish always has a big presence on our specials, we are by the sea after all. With the addition of our very own smoker we can cure and smoke such things as bacon, fish and meats, which is always a great way to enhance our offering. You can enjoy good food and atmosphere in our relaxed Pub area, our newly refurbished Restaurant or you may decide to dine alfresco and enjoy the wonderful views.
You can check what’s happing in our kitchen through Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram or here on our website.
We look forward to welcoming you.
